Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

Their decisions were influenced by four factors such as their personality and multilingual identities, their ongoing life histories and their relationship affordances. The MQ data were analysed to identify the participants' pragmatic choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, the choices were compared with their linguistic performance in DCTs to determine whether they reflected pragmatic resistance or not. The interviewees were asked to justify their choice of pragmatic behavior in a particular situation.
The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were analyzed with descriptive statistics and Z tests. It was discovered that the CLKs frequently resorted to phrases like "sorry" and "thank you." This could be due to their lack of familiarity with the target language which led to a lack of understanding of korea pragmatic norms. The participants comprised 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. They were asked to perform the DCTs in their first language and to complete the MQs either in their L1 or L2. They were then invited to an RI where they were asked to think about and discuss their responses to each DCT situation.
The results showed that, on average, the CLKs resisted native-speaker pragmatic norms in more than 40% of their responses. They did this despite the fact that they could produce patterns that were similar to native speakers. In addition, they were aware of their pragmatic resistance. They attributed their decision to learner-internal variables such as their personalities and multilingual identities. They also referred to external factors, like relationship advantages. For instance, they outlined how their relationships with professors facilitated an easier performance in relation to the intercultural and linguistic norms of their university.
However, the interviewees also expressed concerns about the social pressures and penalties that they could be subjected to if they strayed from their local social norms. This will allow them to better understand the effects of different cultural environments on the behavior of students and classroom interactions of L2 students.
